Charlie McCoy on Leading the New Wave of CEOs

The true measure of greatness rests in the ability to make a meaningful impact on something that is far bigger than oneself. Simply put, it takes being great to make a difference. And as one of those who have been exuding the hallmarks of outstanding leadership, Charlie McCoy has revolutionized how laudable corporate figures like chief executive officers carry and present themselves.

With how dynamic and compelling the business landscape has become, key officers in companies and other corporate spaces are compelled to keep up with the changing times. As a result, the stereotypic views against the appearances, characteristics, and personalities of chief executive officers have immensely evolved over the years. And in the case of Charlie McCoy, this must-watch authoritative icon has proven that being a CEO is more than just wearing crisp business suits and rocking a stern disposition.

Widely acknowledged for their influential presence, chief executive officers have earned a reputation for being too conservative and dressed to the nines like the ones usually seen on drama series. However, people like Charlie McCoy have embraced their non-conventional take on leadership and decided to break the mold. As a result, CEOs are becoming less reserved in their style and are bringing more of a personal touch to what they wear, without compromising their work quality.

In today’s society, everyone is growing more familiar with well-renowned CEOs like Jack Dorsey of Twitter, Songe LaRon and Dave Salvant of Squire, and Elon Musk of SpaceX, whose eccentric personalities shine through their trails in a remarkably positive way. And on a mission to embody the exceptional work ethic of the said corporate icons, New York City-based CEO Charlie McCoy has gone all out to transform the business landscape.

In an interview, Charlie McCoy shared that he considers his neighborhood one of the coolest living areas in The Big Apple. “There are CEOs around here like Dave Salvant of Squire and my mentor, Tony Coles, who currently works in the pharmaceutical space. They bring their unique swagger to their positions and to me, that is their example of what a CEO can contribute to society,” he adds.

Charlie McCoy is the founder and CEO of Artisan Barber and Orchard & Ludlow, two of Manhattan’s hottest barbershops and salons. On top of that, he is also standing at the helm of up and rising e-commerce brands bound to take the online commercial space by storm.

Hailed for being naturally creative and expressive, Charlie McCoy does not have the typical look of a CEO. “I like to cut the sleeves of my t-shirts and during the summer, I wear high top Chuck Taylor’s and baseball caps. In the fall, I switch things up with different sweaters, like my oversized Supreme sweaters. I also like to wear my Air Jordan 1’s, different boots, and Vans,” he said. He also enjoys what the stores and boutiques in the city like Extra Butter and Round 2 have to offer.

For Charlie McCoy, his style is not just about expressing himself on a personal and professional level. According to him, it also serves as a vessel of inspiration for younger men with swagger. This kind of freedom assures people that it is okay to channel unique parts of themselves and that they do not have to conform to old societal standards. And as an entrepreneur with dreadlocks, tattoos, and more, Charlie makes it clear that his employees and team can live and work just as liberally as he does.

Being a man of color, Charlie McCoy has shown that nothing can hold him back from fulfilling his dreams and achieving goals. And together with other CEOs and influential personalities like ASAP Bari, Jerry Lorenzo, and Spike Lee, he continues to send the powerful message that unyielding determination can take one to the pinnacle of their careers. It does not matter what society says or thinks. At the end of the day, it all boils down to the effort, and dedication one has put into the realization of their dreams.
